's progressive. call or click today. >>> republican charlie crist ran for governor of florida the usual way. by eating possum at the local eating possum festival. by shaking a lot of hands. charlie crist knew florida and he knew florida politics right down to the last rescued sea turtle. shortly crist was a moderate republican and a proud member of the reality-based community as a republican. as florida governors go, governor crist was popular. he carried approval ratings of over 50%. but then something happened to florida governor charlie crist. something happened to his career. in february of 2009, in the worst of the economic crisis with the nation shedding hundreds of thousands of jobs, charlie crist hugged the democratic president, he hugged president obama at an event in fort meyers and said that president obama's economic stimulus plan was going to be good for florida and good for the country. a few months after that, he announced instead of running for governor, he was going to make a bid for the senate. at the time the idea was to keep a republican in that senate seat. charlie cris

, polls close early, 13 electoral votes, 48/47, president obama on top. state of florida, two-point lead for president obama. the state of ohio, most people have seen as the hinge point of this election, president obama's up 51/45. let's look at where the battleground states stand. if you average polls taken on the real clear politics website, of the nine battle ground states romney is only leading in the average of those polls in the two of them, north carolina and florida. the other states, president obama's got a lead. i'm talking about iowa, colorado, new hampshire, ohio, nevada, all states where president obama's doing very well. at least as competitive with romney. if mitt romney wins the states in his base, plus the two where he's leading, he only gets to 235 electoral votes, he needs many more to get elected. president obama would have many more, 303. so what mitt romney's got to do is figure a way to take some of those states away from the president. virginia, florida, ohio, colorado, iowa. that's where the election's going to be decided. mitt romney easily got a hill to climb t

story from jacksonville, florida. a 45-year-old florida man has been charged with murder in the death of a 17-year-old jordan davis who, according to police, michael dunn pulled up to a convenience store last friday and told a group of teenagers in an suv to turn down their music. police say an argument broke out, dunn pulled a gun and fired eight or nine shots. the young man, jordan davis, was in the back seat of the car and died after being shot twice. police say dunn then drove away from the scene. he was arrested the next morning. so the legal process is taking its course. dunn has plead not guilty, claiming he acted in self-defense but police say the teens were unarmed. this happened in florida, the state that brought us the stand your ground law, a law that the nra pushed hard and has now spread across the country it's a law still playing a central role in the trayvon martin case. we will be watching this case very carefully and bring you updates. block stomach acid from splashing up- relieving the pain quickly. try fast, long lasting gaviscon®. try this... bayer? this isn't ju

there. you saw a need for this after we saw very long lines for voting in ohio. some people in florida who waited seven hours. tell us how this would help. >> that's right, chris. we saw two weeks ago in our federal elections long lines, not just an hour or two but five, six, seven hours in virginia and colorado and wisconsin, in florida. several of the elections for congress weren't called until just the past few days. and when we're 12 years past that debacle of the 2000 election, i think it's critical that we put a competitive grant pool of money out there and challenge states to audit what went wrong and to propose the best changes they can make in registration, in early voting, in vote by mail, in voting access. and given the lessons learned from hurricane sandy to make sure that we are better prepared for conducting or delaying a federal election in the event of a natural disaster. the fast voting act of 2012, if adopted by congress, would put a modest amount of money out there as a challenge grant to encourage states to look seriously at what changes they need to make to ensure
